Wow,
Just stopped in and happened to see the video of the October ICOIL meeting and now I am more confused then ever. That meeting was crazy. I'm surprised the lady in the front of the room chairing the meeting was able to stay so calm. I probably would have gotten angry. I know I have missed something. I thought the September meeting was cancelled. Does anyone know if the secretary is alright? I think they should have just let her finish her statement. I feel badly for her, because I think she really is just trying to do her job. I saw nothing wrong with her minutes when I compared them to the videos. In fact found her minutes to be helpful and accurate. This whole thing makes me mad, but there is nothing I can do. But I think that this council needs to stop beating up on people. That one guy at that one meeting said that the minutes contained to much information and so therefore people might be afraid to say something. Well, if they wanna keep people from being afraid to talk then they shouldn't be calling the police whenever they are trying to read a statement. It is not like she was trying to hit someone. I hope everything is okay. I know it must be stressful. I hope the two people they were trying to beat up on at this meeting hang in there. I would have lost it if I were trying to read my prepared statement about how I was being bullied and intimidated in front of the people that were doing the bullying and intimidation. and then they called the police. I don't think I could even stay as calm as the secretary did, much less the chair. I hope they hang in there. Andrealla |

Welcome to the world of politics and all that goes with it. Our forefathers faced the same challenges and pressure to voice their opinions. Be glad these meetings can be taped and you can read about it, without actually being there. The meetings are open to the public and you can attend and see for yourself. The monthly meetings are held in Indianapolis. Debates are just that, and behind closed doors, it ain't pretty. But you think of any other government in the world that gets results, like this country. Remember, it ain't pretty... but it works. See you at the next meeting... and best wishes! |

BUT theyre totally not! the council is so freaking dirty and they have pushed that girl youre talking about around so much that she was pissed. and rightly so. both of those women. bottom line is this: jodi james was the kind of chairwoman that could be told what to do. ramona (the secretery) was basically told to do what the rest of the council says or else. these women want whats best for the disabled community in indiana and the council doesnt like that. why? BECAUSE THEY ARE MORE CONCERNED WITH WHO GETS WHAT MONEY. fucking sad but true. |

I too wish the situation to be resolved in a civil manner.... but I know better. What is happening is nothing new. Its been the normal for so many years, no matter who the chairperson was. Disruption of meetings is nothing new. It too has been happening for many years. Distruption of monthly meetings, prevents general business from happening. This affects the entire population in our great state. Inhouse disruption has been the stradegy of whoever was not in power at the time. It was there, before Mr. Tolbert. It was there before Ms. Quarles and it will continue to be present at every monthly meeting, until council members stop attending and members become disinterested in the whole process. The winner of the debate will win all the marbles. But who still plays marbles these days. So even the winner... will lose. Sad for Indiana. Sad for the people in Indiana. I share your confusion. I hope things get straightened out, but anyway...welcome. Maybe we can figure it out together. |

I would love to think that the situation could be resolved among intelligent people, willing to comprimise, but that won't happen. I also hope that some of the problems related to the current ICOIL situation will be addressed next month at the Annual Governor's Conference in Indianapolis at the Westin Hotel, November 16th and 17th. Once again, this conference is opened to all, but you should/must preregister, by going to the website, www.in.gov/gpcpd.org or you can call the Indiana Governor Council for People with Disabilities Office at 317-232-7770. While visiting the website, you can also register to receive the monthly newsletter ON TARGET and register to receive via email the weekly updates. You can also sign up to participate in the advocate training program called Partners in Policymaking. This program is funded by grants from the Council, for all residents in Indiana who wish to participate. Knowledge is a very powerful tool. Knowledge also means knowing your rights to advocate for others. Next month, there will be over 400 citizens from Indiana attending this annual conference. Will you be one of them.... ? Best Wishes Why is this allowed to continue? And if it has been going on for many years, and can't be fixed. What can be done? Can we tear it down and rebuild or something? |

I want to thank everyone who has supported myself and the secretary as we go through this madness that is ICOIL. As you will see, yesterday was just a continuation. I have been on the council for 4 years and seen the madness go through several phases and it goes on with different people. That says to me that it's not all about the people (though that is a major problem). It is about a system that encourages the kind of greed and insanity that is ICOIL. The next step for me and Ramona (The Secretary) is to go to the Governor's office next week and have a meeting with one of his aides. We are going to outline what is and has been going on and hopefully get the Governor to help put an end to it. I don't know what will happen, but stay tuned! Jodi |

Hey there RealChair, Kudos to you and Ramona for sticking through this unfolding saga of corruption and arrogance. Your continuing attitude of positivity and desire for change is the best hope this council has got right now. Don't let the immaturity and absolute vulgar behavior on the parts of those who did not attend Wednesday's meeting get you down. Stay the course and hold true to your ideals and the truth will win out. They're only hurting themselves by acting this way, as evidenced by yesterday's attendance. Every empty seat at that council table was a slap in the face not only to you, Ramona, and Teresa but even more, to the public who attended and everyone else who stands to benefit from the services ICOIL was built to provide. The fact that you attend and strive to keep fighting the good fight shows that you have the character and responsibility necessary to prevail in a battle of this type. This goes for everyone who cares about the rights of the disabled in Indiana. Stay vigilant, know who your enemy is. Monitor their behavior and counteract it with the best weapon there is...COMMON SENSE!!! Maybe Grocho Marx said it best when he said, " I wouldn't join any club that would have me as a member."
I am also very concerned about all that has been lost to those in Northern Indiana, over the years, in money, services and benefits, because of all that which we read and hear. The invite remains open to attend the Gov's Conference this week in Indianapolis, at the Westin Hotel on Thursday and Friday. Meet those you have read about. Meet those who you've heard about. Meet those who can do something about it. Most every organization representing you will be there. But remember.. it all starts with you. See You There!
